An event teaching individuals life-saving skills is taking place in Somerset County Saturday.

The Minutes Matter event will teach life-saving skills to individuals of all ages, which include hands-only CPR, Stop the Bleed, how to help someone in a mental health crisis, as well as overdose awareness and prevention, where people will be taught how to use Narcan, among others.

Narcan will also be given away to individuals who wish to have some.

Sarah Deist, Senior Manager of Public Relations, said this event is about teaching people that timing is everything when it comes to a traumatic event.

Deist said, "It's really based on the principle that, in every emergency, minutes matter. So, whether it's somebody having a stroke or somebody who has a traumatic bleed of some sort, a cardiac event; the quicker that you can get help, it increases your likelihood of surviving those types of events."

The event is open to individuals of all ages and will be held at the main station of the Somerset Ambulance Association located at 115 Wood Duck Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
