NANTY GLO - Nanty Glo Pool and Park was shut down Wednesday morning after receiving allegations about possible safety issues.
On Thursday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health could be seen inspecting the pool and testing the water.
An initial report hasn’t been released, but Nanty Glo Police said the pool will remained closed until the issues are handled.
“The pool is now closed and will remain closed until some of the issues that were found with the structure and infrastructure of the pool have been addressed,” said Michael Oyaski of Nanty Glo Borough police.
The vice president of the pool and park told 6 News early Thursday he didn’t understand why the pool was locked up.
“I feel it’s a slap in the face. I feel we, the volunteers here, do a fantastic job keeping this park and this pool in good condition with the manpower we have,” Nicholas Dugan said.
Some issues include improper markings equipment not in place and modifications to the pools infrastructure, said police.
“This does not having something to do with safety of the water; however, it does have something to do with the safety of the people attending the pool,” Oyaski said.
Now, in the middle of the summer heat and sun, residents will have to look elsewhere until the pool can reopen.
“I feel as soon as we can get this pool open again, we are going to do so and continue to serve public the best we possibly can,” Dugan said.
