SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A Somerset County couple charged for faking the birth and death of a child back in August waived their preliminary hearing Tuesday.
Kaycee and Geoffrey Lang are facing two counts of misdemeanor theft and one count of receiving stolen property after police say the two defendants faked a pregnancy, birth and death in of a baby in July to receive money and gifts.
Tuesday, both Kaycee and Geoffrey Lang waived their preliminary hearing.
According to officials, charges were originally filed in Westmoreland County because that is where a baby shower took place in May where the couple received gifts.
According to Somerset County District Attorney Lisa Lazzari-Strasiser, all charges have been moved to Somerset County.
They are both on unsecured bond of $10,000.
According to magistrate Judge Kenneth Johnson, some conditions of their bond is the couple, who lives together, may not talk about the case with each other or anyone.
The Somerset DA tells 6 News that most of the prosecutors’ witnesses are family members and friends.
Their next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 5, 2020.
