Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Officials announced Wednesday that construction on the Johnstown Inclined Plane rehabilitation project has been paused after an "issue" was reportedly discovered in November.
CamTran officials say the issue reportedly impacts the movement of the Inclined Plane cars and is a "concern."
“The unique nature of the Inclined Plane presents many challenges with its rehabilitation and unfortunately circumstances beyond CamTran’s control have slowed down progression of the project. The safety of everyone involved in the rehabilitation project, the community and reopening of the Inclined Plane remain CamTran’s top priority.”
The project was previously delayed last year after city officials reported a delay in receiving certain parts, including the "sheave wheels," which the cables attach to and help pull the car up the tracks.
Project organizers say they are working with industry experts, inspectors and PennDOT to review the issue.
Officials have not confirmed if/how this latest issue will delay the reopening of the Inclined Plane.
