Pennsylvania's statewide bear season came to a close Wednesday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Mickey Moore, of Clearfield, harvested the third largest bear in the state.

Moore killed the 704-pound male Nov. 17 in Goshen Township, Clearfield County.

Moore said he and a group of friends were out driving for bear and following tracks.

He said the bear stepped out in front of him and he took the shot. Moore said it was a team effort.

"When I first saw it, I knew it was a good sized bear but once I actually walked up to it, then I knew it was way bigger than what I thought," said Moore.

Moore said he killed a 501-pound bear in the same exact spot a few years ago.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission said 1,833 bear have been harvested in 54 counties so far.

A 780-pound male was taken by Michael Rubeo, of Mercer, in Howe Township, Forest County.

A 708-pound male was taken by Timothy Weaver, of Dallas, with a rifle in Harvey's Lake Borough, Luzerne County.
