Authorities say a Bedford County woman will spend the rest of her life behind bars after being convicted of fatally shooting her husband in 2018.

In September, 76-year-old Nancy Focht was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 74-year-old David Focht Sr.

"The defendant murdered her husband then tried to lie her way out of being caught,” Attorney General Michelle Henry said. “Although nothing can bring back David Focht Sr., thanks to the hard work and diligence of the investigators and prosecutors on this case, Nancy Focht is being held fully accountable for his death."

Police charged Focht in early 2019 after she reportedly confessed to shooting her husband inside a shed on their Mountain Penny Lane property.

During the trial, her defense argued that she was a victim of domestic violence and that the shooting occurred in self-defense.

However, the prosecution emphasized that Focht reportedly changed her story about the shooting multiple times.

Authorities note that Focht will not be eligible for parole.
