STATE COLLEGE, Pa (WJAC) — Police in Patton Township say two Maryland men are facing charges after they stole a cash box from a Coinsource ATM at a State College Sheetz, according to a criminal complaint.
Police say 23-year-old Ely Williams-Harr and 25-year-old James Swann both face charges of theft by unlawful taking, conspiracy to commit theft, possession of an instrument of crime and criminal mischief, according to court documents.
The complaint states that around 9:40 a.m. Friday, officers with the Patton Township police department were dispatched to the Sheetz, along Valley Vista Drive in State College, for a report of two males who stole the contents from a Coinsource ATM.
A Coinsource ATM, according to a authorities, is used to purchase or deposit Bitcoin.
Police say surveillance video shows the two men, later identified as Williams-Harr and Swann, enter the store's foyer area, where the ATM was located, and open the machine, with pry bars, in order to obtain its cash box.
The complaint adds that a customer witnessed the theft and took a picture of the suspect vehicle.
Authorities say that approximately 25 minutes after the theft occurred, state police located the suspect vehicle, near Roaring Spring, and took the men into custody.
Troopers say that the cash box and pry bars were located, in plain view, in the back seat of the car.
Both Williams-Harr and Swann are currently residing at the Centre County Prison, with bail set at $50,000 each, court dockets show, and their preliminary hearings are scheduled for July 15th.
